Creating Royce Lewis Chalk Art: The Rain Couldn’t Stop Me!

This one was a nail-biter all the way to the finish! I just managed to wrap up my chalk art portrait of Minnesota Twins player Royce Lewis before the cut-off, and while I’m a bit crushed I couldn’t get him exactly how I intended, I’m happy with how it turned out—especially given so many setbacks along the way.

Day one was cut short since I came straight from another event. But it didn’t help that the surface was a very rocky, and heavily textured which makes the work even more challenging. On the second day, we lost half of the day to rain – a LOT of rain!

To be honest, I almost gave up from all the rain, and thought about starting something new. But with a little perseverance, focus, and some sunshine, it’s amazing how quickly things can come together! 😎

Royce Lewis marks player #4 from the Twins that I’ve chalked, and just like the others, I adapted photo my brother-in-law and incredibly talented photographer, Brace Hemmelgarn took. As a long time Twins fan, it’s always a great time creating these pieces and bringing a bit of my love for chalk art and the Twins together.

A big thank you to the Shops at West End, Shawn, Canvas Convergence, and all the sponsors for an incredible weekend! Thank you for taking such great care of the artists and for the opportunity to participate.
