I’m so excited to share these custom Jordan 1 cleats I created for Carlos Correa as part of
the Minnesota Twins x Nike City Connect uniform release! These cleats were all about standing out, and I wanted the design to pop against the dark blue uniforms and water graphics of the City Connect jerseys. You definitely won’t miss these on the field!
The inspiration for this design came from something every Minnesotan knows and loves—a beautiful sunset over the lakes. I used a yellow-to-subtle-pink gradient to capture our stunning sunsets, which perfectly complement the City Connect color scheme. Here’s more on the design...
The Design Breakdown:
Left Cleat (Lake Minnetonka):
I included the iconic topographical map of Lake Minnetonka, along with the Lake Minnetonka skyline on the back. Catch the iconic water towers from Wayzata and Minnetonka Beach along the skyline as well. This captures the essence of Minnesota’s lake culture, especially the incredible Lake Minnetonka.
Right Cleat (Minneapolis Chain of Lakes):
Seeing as the Twins are from the Twin Cities and play at Target Field in Minneapolis (the “City of Lakes”), I couldn’t resist incorporating the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes—Bde Maka Ska, Cedar, Lake of the Isles, and Harriet. The back of the cleat features the downtown Minneapolis skyline, tying in with the back of the other cleat.
Ripple Effect:
I added a blue gradient ripple effect throughout the cleats to represent the water themes and align with the City Connect colors and brand guides. The details make the whole design feel fluid, like Minnesota’s lakes themselves.
Secret Detail for Carlos:
There’s also one small personal detail I put in for Carlos to create a personal touch. I love doing these sometimes small things to further personalize a custom project.
These cleats got a lot of love and attention when they debuted both on the social media accounts for the Minnesota Twins, as well as the MLB, Play Ball, and MLB Network.
Thank you to the Minnesota Twins for bringing me in for this project, and to Brace Hemmelgarn and Dan Coomey for being so great to work with and capturing so much great content. And of course, thank you to Carlos Correa for rocking these custom cleats. All photos courtesy of the Minnesota Twins/Brace Hemmelgarn.
